Mission and Philosophy

Development Homes is committed to the provision of quality, community based support services to people with disabilities, enabling them to maximize their individual potential and realize their personal dreams.

In support of this mission, Development Homes strives to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Development Homes helps people with developmental disabilities live independently and when that isn't possible, can provide them with safe and secure homes. Development Homes helps people lead fuller lives through training, recreation, work, and community involvement. Development Homes serves the society at large by heightening public awareness, understanding, support, and appreciation of people with developmental disabilities.

Our Philosophy: We believe that:

  • Each person is valuable and should be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Every person has the right to make choices, and take responsibility for their actions.
  • The rights of every person should be exercised and protected.
  • Every person should live and work in the least restrictive setting.
  • People with disabilities should be included in all areas of community life.
  • Family involvement positively affects the person?s social, emotional and cognitive development.

Individual rights:

Each person served has the right to treatment, habilitation, and support services in the least restrictive and most appropriate setting.

Decisions are made by the person as a key member of their Interdisciplinary Team. The team has full autonomy in developing each person?s Life Plan.

All Persons are guaranteed the same rights as any member of society as protected by our constitution. The right to treatment, habilitation, and support services which foster the developmental potential of the person, protect personal liberty and provide the least restrictive conditions necessary to achieve the purposes of treatment.

  • The right to dignity, privacy, and humane care.
  • The right to participate in appropriate services of publicly supported education, regardless of degree of disability.
  • The right to prompt medical care and treatment.
  • The right to religious freedom and practice.
  • The right of social interaction and participation in community activities.
  • The right to physical exercise and recreational opportunities.
  • The right to be free from harm, including unnecessary physical restraint, or isolation, excessive medication, abuse or neglect.
  • The right to be free from hazardous procedures.
